Getting smarter:)
Hooray! Decorators are in today (Thursday) fixing the weird patches on the walls, It will take a week as it needs to “cure” before over painting however business will continue as usual during this time as the cutting room is unaffected and we are blessed with plenty of space here at The Sewing Room.
lots of new shelving all put up by me, and storage sorted :) All ready now for a full on week of sewing. Some places are still available on this weeks workshops so do check the calendar if you’ve been thinking of taking the plunge and coming down. You can pop in without commitment during open hours if you want to see what’s available here.
Sewing Room News – Spring 2012
What a busy time I’ve been having getting sorted out after moving into my new flat, nipping off to Birmingham for the Sewing for Pleasure, Embroidery, Stitch and Craft show as well as getting the Sewing Room activities planned to take us through from Easter to TT week!
The Sewing for Pleasure trip which regular Sewing Room sewer Charmain and I attended was one of the best I’ve been to! Charmain was a “show virgin” but soon got the hang of working through the crowds to get booked onto the taster workshops to try out new products and techniques. Not only did we see the catwalk shows and textile artist exhibitions (breathtaking!) but a display of the Downton Abby costumes were also there to be seen. I’ve managed to pick up a number of new tools for use by all any time you’re in the Sewing Room. Over the summer I will be planning the autumn workshops around the new ideas that are trending in the home sewing, quilting and gift making world today so do keep an eye on my web site and facebook page from time to time!
The requests I’ve been getting have been very varied for both workshop content as well as the times I’m available to teach. More people are now finding themselves looking for ways that will help them save money by sewing for themselves, mending, altering, up-cycling clothing, making curtains and items for the home or simply making gifts for friends and family etc. all things that can be learnt here at The Sewing Room. In response to this, and with courses run over several weeks being more of an autumn / winter activity, I’ve made some changes to the format for this next round of sessions on my calendar which I hope will suit you (I’m sure you’ll let me know if not!).
The main addition to the core workshops are the Evening Classes that will be starting in May these evenings will be run on the same lines as the “Make your Own” sessions. Discounts on these sessions are available if making a group booking or booking and paying for more than one session in advance by contacting me.
All workshops will continue to be run for small groups of people so that everyone gets all the help they want and need. I will of course also be on hand if needed to offer guidance during the “Drop in” sessions as they’ve become known (a.k.a Sewing Club sessions) this is where you can stay for however long you want to be here stitching with the various machines I have available that you may not have at home. These sessions run on Tuesday mornings through to 2pm, Wednesday afternoons from 1pm and will also now be run every Saturday afternoon between 2pm – 5pm. I’m still available to teach at other times through the week or you can pop in and just hire a workstation if you’d prefer at the “Drop in” rate any time I’m here. Call or email me first to arrange a time if the advertised times don’t suit as I can usually work something out at a time that will. Most importantly the kettle is always kept hot!
If you know anyone who may be interested in getting advanced notice of activities at The Sewing Room please pass this newsletter on so they can join the Sewing Room mailing list.
It’s been lovely working with those of you who have come along to the classes, workshops and been using the workstations for your projects. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Keep stitching!
Angela
What a great show!
A truly fabulous weekend was had at the NEC in Birmingham last weekend! Sewing Room sewer Charmain and I headed down on Thursday evening to be ready for the early start at the Sewing for Pleasure, Fashion Embroidery and Stitch show. The ques build long before the doors open as the various workshops can only be booked on the day on a first come first served basis. Show regulars in the know are primed and ready for the sprint with their route maps to hand! All the latest trends, techniques, ideas, products etc. can be seen and tried out. Needless to say we both came home with bulging cases of goodies to have fun with!
You can be sure that I’ll be putting the new ideas to good use as future workshops are developed. This is an annual event so make note in your diary for next year to come too!
Whoo Hoo! It’s not just me who’s been moving recently. This web site may look the same but it’s now living in a new server so hopefully you’ll always be able to see what’s on and what’s new:) It seems much faster too! Thank you Andrew. Updates will also be found on my Facebook page too – www.facebook.com/iomsewingroom.
Volunteers needed to help Harry Potter!
