About me
The Sewing Room is a brand new venture founded by Angela Kennedy who wants to share her love of textiles with people who also love to sew and knit.
I come from a family of people that sew, fueling my enthusiasm for all kinds of stitching. They were the first to teach me many of the traditional skills that are now back in demand with the ever growing trend to recycle and make the most from our cloths, home furnishings and craft projects.
My knowledge expanded as I studied dressmaking to A level at school, I then went on to Battersea College of Education where I trained in teaching textiles. I furthered my knowledge of clothing construction, methods and manufacture with many years of practical hands on experience in making altering and adapting garments for myself and for many clients who sought the perfect “made to measure” fit from off the peg garments. This experience ranged from basic high street buys to top end designer garments.
Somewhat diversely my teaching experience has come through my love of horses. I am qualified and registered as a BHSAI Int T with the British Horse Society, I am First Aid at work qualified and have completed the Good Practice & Child Protection training required by them for working with children.
I combined sewing with teaching as a freelance instructor as my family grew up until they left home. I have found that the teaching skills I learned while at Battersea have been transferable and that helping people learn a new skill is something I really love to do and look forward to meeting and working with you at The Sewing Room.
